What is circulating supply?
The number of units of a crypto asset that currently exist and are available to trade.
Circulating supply excludes tokens that have not yet been issued and, in most calculations, coins that are permanently lost or locked. It is the figure used to compute market capitalisation.
Why it matters: the gap between circulating and maximum supply tells you how much future issuance is still to come, which is dilution for existing holders. A project with a small float and a large locked allocation can look modestly valued while having a great deal of supply scheduled to arrive.
